In The Fashionista's Closet: Too Tired To Think of a Title

I have been really busy lately and I am oh so tired, the strain of working two jobs is starting to wear me a little thin...

 (Sorry for the expression in this pic, I'm not sure what I was thinking about...) 

I got my FABULOUS thrift items from Reiko yesterday but I left my handbag at school with my camera in it so I couldn't take pics. STAY TUNED for those, I'm so excited!

So happy to nab this navy polka dot jacket at a thrift store for $2.99. I kept thinking I needed a navy and white striped shirt to pair with it and I already had one! It has a red bow on the shoulder but you can't see it.

Haven't worn jeans in quite a while, I love these wide legged pair from 7 For All Mankind.

For some reason I didn't wear these pink peep toe shoes from Nine West that much last year but now they are getting all kinds of use.

I'm so behind on my tv shows that I watch but I did get an opportunity to watch Glee last night and was blown away by Charice's rendition of "Listen" from Dreamgirls. You can watch it here.

In The Fashionista's Closet: School Is Now In Session

Well dudes and dudettes it's back to school time and I had my first day back of substitute teaching. I was placed in the kindergarten classroom and I don't think I've ever had to wipe so many noses or tie so many shoes as I did today. And that was only half a day! 

We had a "runner" it was his first day of school ever and he did NOT want to stay with this strange lady while his parents left him possibly for good, in his mind. But after two prison break attempts we got him settled down and wiped his tears and he was a happy camper at the end of the day.

What I couldn't understand was my other kinder student who I recognized from Pre-K last year who cried off and on the WHOLE TIME he was there today. He said he missed his mom. One minute he's cutting out a gingerbread man, the next he's tearing up. I'm thinking they must be having big fun at his house for him to cry the whole day at the drop of a hat. Hell, I wanted to see what's going on at his house for that kind of reaction! Even when it was time to go and we took the kids to the auditorium for parent pickup, he started crying again (I'm guessing in anticipation of seeing his mom.) That is some mom.

I was told that the teachers were going to wear navy shirts and khakis today and this outfit is my interpretation since I don't have a plain navy shirt.

It was a good day, I am happy to feel like a contributing member of society again by working full-time. I should know about the part time job by this week and I'm busy planning some jewelry parties for the month of September.

Here's to progress, now I can start doing the essentials again. Like getting my eyebrows done. Renewing my magazine subscriptions. And buying new shoes. And that is essential people.

In The Fashionista's Closet: Sunburst

I know that I keep talking about how hot it is in Dallas and I try and take my photos in the morning when it's coolest and for no longer than ten minutes but I am still a sweaty mess by the time I'm done. It's ridunkulous I tell you! Every time I have to venture outside I want to take a shower immediately when I get home. 

I cannot for the life of me remember where I got these earrings but I pop them on with just about everything. I wish I could remember, I would have bought two pair!

Got this dress from Zara, I think it was two seasons ago and it's still heavy in the rotation.

These wedges make me look super tall, I'm 5'8" without them and they are so comfy.

I know this is not the best pic but I wanted to show how I pin my twists up in back. I part my hair using my fingers except in the front where I use a comb for a neater look.

Wishlist (In no particular order)

1. To go to H&M. Never been. I know. So sad. Don't cry for me Argentina, I'm going. One day. "Nothing but death can keep me from it!"

2. To be photographed by The Sartorialist. It could happen. I imagine me walking the streets of NYC and having THE Scott Schuman ask to take my pic. "Ummmm.....ok." I acquiesce and pretend that I don't care one bit but I'm secretly jumping for joy on the inside. HEY! It could happen......

3. To be sponsored by a fabulous shoe company who loves my blog and wants to outfit me in their endless supply of shoes. Hear that, Endless, Steve Madden, Heels.com? Just please don't make me wear clogs. Thank you.

One of the Spring/Summer 2010 Fashion Trends is using Lingerie as outerwear, a bit risque for this country but with some adjustments, we can actually wear this trend without going overboard.

First step is identifying what makes a lingerie. Anything lacey, transparent, satin and pair it with more solid fabrics.

Second Step is to keep your accessories to the minimum. Lace is enough to draw attention to you and pilling on the accessories will just make the ensemble so confusing. Imagine wearing a Satin top and having bling on the ears, neck and arms? hmmmmm. OTT

Third Step is to keep in mind that showing skin within reason is fine. Look at the mirror and when you feel uncomfortable then its probably too much skin. When in doubt why don't you put on coat?

Season after season there is only one RTW collection that I look forward to more than eating a cup of ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery... BALMAIN. Eversince I saw the 1st collection of Christophe Descarnin for Balmain, it was like a little girl seeing her dream Barbie gift for Christmas.

Since Military inspired clothing is all the rage this Spring I decided to put my pieces together for this editorial :)

What endeared me to this particular trend is its androgynous appeal. I feel very sexy and confident in an uncontrived manner.

One of my wardrobe must haves would have to be a tailored coat andbased on the photos in this post, it is the BALMAIN inspired coat that I picked up from ZARA.

Gone are the days where a single breasted coat can only be worn for the office as a lot of people are teaming it with denims and formals as seen in this post.

*Sigh* Can we talk about how much I ADORE these shoes??? I went to DSW last year looking for some black sandals and when I saw these, all thoughts of black sandals went out the window. I.had.to.have.them.

I love outfit posts but I am always running perpetually late so as I never have time to capture what I wear. As I was doing a wardrobe survey I had the idea to style my outfits flat and take photos. I loved doing this when I helped out the art director on a shoot, no models, just clothes.

About the 'fit:
I fell for this nautical stripe top and paired it with my 70's style wide legged jeans for a sexy sailor-ette look. Popped the look with yellow wedges.

A SPLASH OF COLOUR

Everything inspires me.... even this Chiffon top from Zara :)

I don’t know if it was the foggy weather or the top that I was wearing which prompted me to put on a lot of colour on my eye that day, however, now when I look closely at the photos I think that that the Chiffon Zara Top was my main inspiration for this look.

Again, the key to wearing the weirdest colour combination is blending. For some reason and out of experience I have come to a conclusion that I can combine any colour and make it work.... somehow J

When going for colourful looks, especially when using shimmer shades, I suggest keeping the other areas of the face a little muted. Instead of wearing a shimmery blusher, perhaps you may go with a pink matte shade to give the entire face some balance. If you prefer shimmer on the cheeks perhaps go with a matte highlighting powder such as the one found in the Contour Kit of Make Up Forever. You may also go with Givenchy Prisme. It gives a rosy glow without the shine. Incidentally, products without shimmer are best for oily skin or skin which has visible pores.

I decided not to line the eyes with either a brown or black liner and kept the look soft by using an eyeshadow to line the lash bed and lower lash line. To make the colour more vibrant you may dip the brush in a little water or use the Make Up Forever Eye Seal. Also, instead of the traditional white shimmer on the brow bone, why no opt for peach or pale orange? J
