DUBAI FASHION WEEK - MICHAEL CINCO

PHOTOS COURTESY OF ROY MATEO

Impalpable according to the Dictionary is incapable of being perceived by the sense of touch therefore making in intangible. This word truly sums up the Autumn/Winter 2010 collection of Michael Cinco. Inspired by the tragedy Madame Butterfly, the colour palette of Cinco’s collection was truly a breath of fresh air. I can personally liken it to having stayed glued to the computer for hours and suddenly looking out into the sea..... extremely refreshing.

Though Cinco is known for magnificent beadwork, what wowed me was his use of origami, if I am not mistaken in two of his dresses.

When asked as to why we saw a variety of hemlines as opposed to his usual awe inspiring, floor sweeping creations, the designer was quick to say that he intends to capture the international market with an emphasis on Hollywood, which, by the way, was his inspiration whilst he was growing up.

Because of the detailing and amount of beadwork done on each dress, one cannot help but ask as to how much a Michael Cinco creation actually weighs and with a knowing smile the designer simply says, its impalpable...... light J

Aside from talking about his collection, the designer also had a lot of inspiring words for those who wish to make it in the fashion industry and that is to dream big and just try to make your work even better than the last and judging from his latest masterpieces, Cinco’s work will just keep on wowing us, collection after collection J
